Comodoro Guest House

We welcome our visitors to the smallest island of the Azores. 760 (nautical miles) off the coast of Portugal. The Azores consist of nine islands, being the smallest of them all, Corvo. With a total area of 17 square miles and a population of more or less 450 people. Surrounded by the Atlantic, fishing is an "all year" activity and arming being the main economical resource of the island.

Getting to Corvo is now easier, with three weekly flights (in the winter) and from Monday to Friday (summer months), connecting from Ponta Delgada, Terceira,Horta and Flores. The flight duration will depend on which island your flying in from, being S Michael the furthest on this itinerary but if one prefers there is always the option of traveling by boat from Flores (seeing that the weather permits the crossing between the two islands), there is a distance of approximately 15 (nautical miles) and it can be done either by speed boats or the regular passenger ferry we have called the "Ariel".

In the breakfast area we also offer a small kitchenette for those who prefer to fix a quick snack, (also free of charge) . If not, there are always the local restaurants, where you can sit and enjoy a nice dinner with family and friends.

Two minutes walking distance from the old part of the village and a five to ten minute walk from the beach.

There is the must see of the crater “Caldeirão”, located right in the center of the island, a ten minute drive or a hike of about an hour or two. Upon request we can provide transportation to the crater. Most guests often like to spend the day there, it has a marked walking trail to the inside of the crater and we highly recommend the walk. Its a surreal experience to have a stroll inside of an extinct volcano.

There is also the “Indian” face which can be seen sculpted by nature on the upper cliffs of the island, this trail here is also visibly marked for those who are interested in seeing the “Indian´s face” or just a view from up above looking the Atlantic Ocean and the west side of the village.

We have a small beach located at the west end of the village, with waters ranging from 16ºC in the winter and 24ºC to 25ºC in the summer months. In case you forget your beach towel just ask for one at the front desk.

During the summer months we have ongoing religious festivities being the main one on Aug 15, in celebration of the patron of the island, Nossa Senhora dos Milagres. The others vary in dates but you can find food, beverages and live music at these feasts, where all the locals gather to have a night out with family and friends, welcoming all those who visit. These are usually celebrated with a mass service and procession that have been carried out by generation after generation.

Whichever way you choose to travel we welcome you to our island.
