OPENED IN AUGUST 2013, the Sítio da Assumada, occupies five thousand square meters, it functions with solar panels, and a system of water capture and wind energy. The project intends to double the number of apartments in the future. The eco-tourism unit aims at family and senior tourism, mainly long stays. A way of reducing seasonal tourism in one of the Azores’ and Europe’s westernmost points and of appreciating to its fullest Flores Island’s exotic landscape.
Five wooden villas, with environmental and construction material certification, account for Sítio da Assumada´s ecotourism concept. The island´s lush landscape and natural resources account for the rest.
The location is very important. Were it not for the entire island being a part of the network of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, the opening g of these comfortable and practical apartments has also taken place in Fajã Grande, an area of one of the most beautiful Azorean coastlines and of the famous waterfalls for which the island is known.
